Operation Crossroads was designed to identify the cause and effect of motor vehicle crashes, injury and death on our Nation’s roadways. Historically, enforcement has focused on violations and locations that have proven to be productive in catching violators. However, the violators being caught are not always the violators that are causing crashes. This learning lab will identify why accurate data is important to drill down on the crash problem.

  • Attendees will be provided historical data representing targeted violations and locations where serious injury crashes occur.
  • Attendees will learn the engineering intent behind the transportation system and why enforcement should target violations at conflict points.
  • Attendees will take the classroom instruction into a field exercise. The exercise will provide students an opportunity to observe what they have learned, identify violations at conflict points (without making a vehicle stop) and record violations for class discussion.
